In this project, we are going to make a Flappy Bird using the loom. The challenging part of this project is doing the looping correctly.
What You Need?
- A rainbow loom
- 3 red rubber bands for the beak
- 1 black rubber band
- 5 white bands
- 30 yellow coloured rubber band
- A hook
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Place the rainbow loom as shown in the video.
- Take 2 single yellow rubber bands; loop them from the top peg to the centre 2nd peg as shown.
- 3. Again, take 2 single yellow bands and loop it diagonally from the top peg to the 1st right peg. Repeat the same step again and loop 2 single yellow bands the top peg to the 1st left.
- Next take 2 single yellow bands; loop them from the 1st left peg to the 2nd left peg.
- Proceed by taking another yellow rubber band and put it on the 2nd left peg and stretch it to the 3rd left.
- Repeat the above step similarly by putting 2 yellow bands from the 1st right peg to the 2nd right peg. Again, put another yellow band from the 2nd right peg to the 3rd right peg.
- Now, take 2 single whites, and loop them from the 3rd right peg to the centre 4th peg. This will close it off, and form the top of the bird’s head.
- Again, take 2 single yellow bands and close the bottom by looping the bands from the 3rd left peg to the centre 4th peg.
- Next, take 2 single yellow bands and put them on the centre 2nd to the centre 3rd peg as shown in the video.
- Finally, take 2 single whites and put them around the centre 3rd peg to the centre 4th peg.
- Now, you have to make the wings. Take 2 single yellow bands and put them on the right and left pegs of the loom as shown in the video.
- Now, you have to take a single yellow band and cap it off by looping it on the left peg 3 times as shown. Repeat the same step for the right peg as shown in the video.
- Go under the cap bands (using your hook) on the right side, grab the bottom 2 yellow bands and loop it onto itself. Repeat the same for the left hand side.
- Take a single yellow band and loop it up as shown in the video.
- Now, hold one wing using your hook as shown. Grab it and hold the wing carefully with your fingers as shown.
- Next, you have to add this wing from the 2nd left peg to the 2nd right peg. Push the wing towards the bottom as shown.
- Repeat the same process with the other wing and loop it from the 2nd left to the 2nd right peg.
- Now, you have to make the eyes. Take a single black coloured rubber band and loop it 3 times (to create 4 loops) on the hook as shown. Take another white band, pull the black loops from the hook and put them onto the single white band as shown.
- Next, you have to loop it across from the 3rd left peg to the 3rd right peg.
- Now, you have to make the beak. So, take a single red band and loop it 3 times on the hook to create four loops. Next, take a single red, twist and double, get it on the hook and pull the looped rubber bands onto the single band as shown. Take another single red band, twist and double, get it on the hook and pull the looped bands similarly onto the singly doubled red rubber band. That’s how you make the beak.
- Now, you have to add the red beak to the centre 4th peg as shown in the video.
- Now, you have to loop very carefully. Go under the beak, grab the top 2 single rubber bands (white) and loop it onto itself as shown. Again, go under the beak, grab the next two (this time yellow band) and loop it on the 3rd left peg. Again, go under, grab the white bands and loop it onto the 3rd right peg as shown.
- Proceed by looping the yellow bands from the left side (starting from the 3rd left peg) of the loom and go all the way to the top peg as shown in the video.
- Repeat the same for the right side, i.e. looping the bottom 2 yellow bands all the way to the top peg.
- Next, go under the centre 3rd peg, grab the bottom 2 bands using your hook and loop it on the centre 2nd peg as shown. Carefully spread and pull the wings as shown.
- Again, go under the centre 2nd peg, grab the bottom 2 bands and loop it onto the top peg as shown.
- Take a single yellow band and creating a slip knot as shown in the video using your hook.
- Finally, you have to take the Flappy Bird off the loom as shown. Do it very carefully.
- The Flappy Bird is almost done. You can push the eyes up and pull the wings with your finger carefully.
So, that’s your Flappy Bird. Have lots of fun making one!
